Finned Tubular Electric Heating Elements

The finned tubular electric heating elements produced by Reart are armoured heating elements that, thanks to their technology, are used in industrial processes for various applications requiring rapid and efficient air or gas heating, as well as for maintaining process gas temperature.

The electric heating elements are finned to enhance heat exchange between the heating element and the fluid in processes with forced ventilation. Given their technology, they can also be installed directly in the environments to be heated, operating in static air or gas conditions.

In many applications they can be inserted in ventilation ducts or air conditioning systems (called electric duct heaters), where they are directly exposed to the flow of air or process gas.

APPLICATIONS OF FINNED ELECTRIC HEATING ELEMENTS

These types of heating elements are widely used in different heating processes for temperatures up to 450° C:

  • Outdoor Heating: Perfect for maintaining temperature in open spaces or outdoor structures.
  • Drying Systems: Ideal for temperature control in drying processes, such as in the laundry and ironing industry.
  • Air Conditioning Systems: Used to regulate air temperature in HVAC systems for industrial and commercial applications, such as in the food service industry.
  • Forced Ventilation Systems: Ensure uniform and rapid heating in high-intensity industrial systems.

Finned tubular electric heating elements are widely used in various industrial sectors thanks to their efficiency and versatility, including:

Technical features

Finned tubular electric heating elements are available in standard diameters of 8.5 mm -10 mm – 15 mm.

Materials

Finned tubular electric heating elements are built using Ni-Cr 80/20 resistive wire, positioned at the centre of a metal tube and insulated with high-quality magnesium oxide (MgO), compacted through a cold rolling process.

The sheath of the heating element is made of:

  • Aisi 321 stainless steel
  • Aisi 316L – Aisi 309 stainless steel

The external finning, designed to enhance heat exchange efficiency, is made of Aisi304 stainless steel AISI 304 and is available in heights of 5 mm or 8.5 mm.

Electric power

The electric power for finned electric heating elements is normally designed with:

  • specific power of 2÷4 W/cm2 for systems with low process gas flow
  • specific powers of 6 ÷ 12 W/cm2 for systems with high process gas flow

The geometry and sizing of finned electric heating elements are designed according to the available space in the process. They can be U-shaped or M-shaped, with a maximum developed length of up to 5.5 meters.

REART offers customisations and modifications upon request or based on client specifications.

Accessories

All finned heating elements can be equipped with different accessories such as:

  • electrical connections with threaded terminal
  • threaded bushings for securing the electrical heating element to the process
  • Custom-designed flanges for process mounting

Customized designs and executions are available upon client request.

FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the main applications of finned tubular electric heating elements?

Finned heating elements are primarily used for heating air and gases in industrial plants, ventilation ducts, and air conditioning systems. Thanks to their efficient heat exchange, they are ideal for environments requiring fast and controlled heating.

Finned tubular heating elements provide high thermal exchange efficiency due to the increased heat transfer surface provided by the fins. This makes them more effective in heating air or gas compared to smooth tubular heating elements.

Our finned heating elements can be produced up to a maximum length of 5.5 meters, with various U-shaped or M-shaped configurations to adapt to different industrial systems.

REART’s finned tubular electric heating elements are made from high-quality materials to ensure efficiency and durability.

The resistive wire is made of a nickel-chromium alloy (Ni Cr 80/20), a highly heat-resistant material, positioned at the center of a metal tube and insulated with magnesium oxide (MgO), known for its excellent insulating and conductive properties.

The sheath can be made of AISI 321, AISI 316L, or AISI 309 stainless steel.

The finning is made of AISI 304 stainless steel.
